Rite, basically you get a sponsor sheet, for all your friends and family to complete to donate money to Yorkhill Hospital for Sick Children(great cause BTW), or donate easter eggs, Thousands of bikers bike through from one side of Glasgow to the other. It is call the Glasgow Easter Egg run, there is one done at Xmas too. _________________ Four Wheels Move The Body - Two Wheels Move The Soul!! |

its been running for a good few years now and can have about 8000 bikers there ,the route takes in city centre before heading to sick kids hospital ,just turn up with eggs or throw some cash in the donation buckets. its a great day many bikers are in fancy dress, the details of this years run is not confirmed yet but will be posted here when they are _________________ cant think what to put here |

It seems its now on ,ive just read this on the Ayrshire Bikers...
Garry Whiting (abley assisted by a few others including myself) is the ringleader of "Y.E.E.R" or "Yorkhill Easter Egg Run" in Glasgow. We formed to rescue one of the largest charity motorcycle events in the UK - the Glasgow "Easter Egg Run", a motorcycle parade through the city in aid of the Royal Hospital for Sick Children. The run is held on Easter Sunday (4th April this year) and has been going for more than 10 years raising as much as £33 000 pounds EACH YEAR for the hospital as well as many thousands of chocolate eggs. The eggs which are many times the number needed for children who are stuck in the hospital over Easter are then distributed to all surrounding hospitals, children's homes & to community midwifes for delivery to other children.
In 2009 the original organisers "M.A.G Scotland" (Motorcycle Action Group) announced that the run was being cancelled FOR THAT YEAR ONLY due to construction work causing health & safety concerns at the assembly location. These concerns apparently originated from the Police. We have since heard that this was inaccurate. Now in 2010, we heard only a few weeks ago that once again MAG had again cancelled, so without much hesitation, we formed a new organisation to take over the event. We simply could not allow tens of thousands of pounds to be cut off from the Children's Foundation. As a result we have had to work frantically to meet rapidly closing windows for Council Parade applications and Police duty planning etc. This has been done I'm glad to report. As a result, we now have the backing of Glasgow City Council, Strathclyde Police, Rock Radio and of course, the hospital and their associated Yorkhill Children's Foundation charity.
Very many thanks for taking the time to read this. Kind regards,
Y.E.E.R
Y.E.E.R Facebook group.

Hi Guys can you email me all info onthe egg run this year, lost touch as not been for two years du to the amount of bikes, but was disgusted with mags attatued to glasgow, can i add,as far as i can remember the original egg run was not orginised by mag,the egg run has been runnin since late 70,s, my first egg run was easter 1981,from blythswood sq(in those days un policed) we would leave go down west george st,round george sq,up Sauchiehall Street,up hope st and then on to greate wester rd.i do think to many bike has taken the esge away from the actual casue of the original run,its crazy to try and get the odd 5000 or more bike on to the hospital site, god i remeber the old days haha so i can imagine what its like now, due to work(and am working this easter) i would hoe to make it for an early run then head off to work,so if any organizers can mail me, i dont use sites that offten so might not check nack before event,i hate chat rooms and things lol i am a biker since 1980 when i got my honda MT50 from ride-on cheers for any info

Yeah, your right Hoggy, the Egg run has been going since the 70's and its had loads of organisers in the past..MAG Scotland is a frigging joke (did you know that membership is by invitation only?) and consits of 3 people.. ffs.
Anyway, if this trio handnt dropped the torch, then there would have been no need for a re-consiltation or approval for this years run..
anyway mate, the run is now setting off from South street (TGT training) on easter sunday, not 100% on time, but i think its due to head off at 11.00 am |
